movement and motion

As part of my first year in art college i have been given a project titled 'Movement and Motion'.  When i got this project first i immediately thought of the windmills that surround the area in which i live and the rotation of the blades.  So for the first part i concentrated on blades and their rotation such as windmills or helicopters...

From here, i followed the idea of rotation and started to think of all rotational objects that may interest me more.  i came to the conclusion of Chairoplanes, Ferris wheels and Carousels which all rotate and settled on the theme of Fairground.

i studied the colour involved in the fairground and through research found the sony bravia adverts to be quite relevant.

While studying the fairground objects,  i realised the work that went into the decoration of these objects.  i found a book in the library which showed the great detail of the art on the obdects.  Alot of the art has a victorian look about it which reminded me of some of the stuff i saw in the peoples park of Limerick so i went down and took some photos so that i could start to work with my photos and fairground book as inspiration. the following were taken in the park..

i experimented with paper, wire, paint, fabric and print to create some 2d pieces.  The following are examples of some of my 2d work

i continued on to 3d  work next, i experimented with wire and paper, the following pictures are examples of some of my paper work

i am currently looking at the shadows my wire and paper pieces make.  i have taken some photos and plan to progress with what i find,,
